Commencement Program Class of 2020

April 13, 2020

Dear: UOTP Graduate

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you on successfully completing the academic requirements to receive your degree at University of the Potomac. We know that completing your degree is an exciting time for you and your family and friends who share in your success.

I am writing this letter to inform you that due to the on-going and continued concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, University of the Potomac has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Graduation Ceremony that was scheduled on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Since our public health experts continue to warn all entities to avoid conducting events and gatherings that involve bringing together large groups of people, and to ensure the continued safety of our entire community, we felt that it was important make this decision at this point on time.

Do know that this was a very difficult decision to make and we relied on information and recommendations from our public health professional to assist us in making this final decision. Our employees are exploring other ways to celebrate your accomplishment in a manner that does not violate the mandates that have been put in place by local, state and federal government officials. In the near future, we hope to share our thoughts and plans to help you celebrate the completion of your studies at Potomac.

Again, congratulations on achieving this great accomplishment. Our educational community enthusiastically welcomes you as the newest alumni of University of the Potomac.

Please stay safe and healthy during this challenging period in the history of our world. We look forward to reuniting with you in the near future.

Sincerely yours,

Clinton D. Gardner, Ph.D.

President

University of the Potomac President Dr. Clinton Gardner acknowledged the mixed emotions he has heard from graduating students as changes have occurred. Most importantly, we understand that graduates and families need time to plan for commencement activities. Considering the uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic and the responsive measures that the nation is taking, Dr. Gardner and other University leaders set in motion a plan for a truly memorable celebration in June.

Commencement is undoubtedly one of students’ greatest achievements at this point in their lives, and we will recognize and celebrate. It is unfortunate that we are experiencing a historic, unprecedented event that requires extraordinary actions. We have been following the government officials and CDC guidelines to stop the spread of the virus and protect our community while honoring our graduates in the most meaningful way we can.

Later this year, we will host our Annual Honors Reception for our honor students and one guest. Graduates will receive more information about this event as it becomes available.
